[Monsters] (#monster
Everything you need to know about the monsters in X.A.N.A.
) ## {: #monster_technical}
General ##### {: #monster_guide} Lyoko-guide Each monster type has its own characteristics. Some of these are hidden in-game while others are directly shown on the monster's avatar card when the monster is in combat.
Health Point
Each monster has [label] {green-light} [label] 100 health points [label] when it materialized. The number of health points a creature has is shown on its avatar card displayed in [combat] (67). Once all of its health points are lost, it is destroyed. Also note that there is no way for a monster to regain health points.
Action Points
Every monster has [label] {label=yellow} 8 action points [label] once materialized, allowing it to perform powerful attacks in combat. Action points are shown on the avatar card of the monster in battle. Finally, note that it is impossible for a monster to regain action points.
Armor
Although all monsters in X.A.N.A. each have [label] {green-light} [label] 100 health points [label], they do not all withstand an attack by a [lyoko warrior] in the same way (77). This resistance is determined by a parameter specific to each type of monster: the [label] {neutral} armor [label]. Since this parameter is not indicated to the player anywhere on the interface, armor can be defined by a number ranging from 0* (weak armor) * to 4* (strong armor) *, thus indicating the resistance of a monster type.
{: #monster_representation} Representation
Several interface programs, mainly maps, represent the monsters of X.A.N.A, while others do not directly represent monsters, but the consequences of their attacks on certain virtual objects. This is particularly the case for the ['Skid Control'] (53), ['Superscan'] (54) or ['Heart Status'] (31 #carthage_core) program, programs respectively indicating the [label] {green-light} [label] health points [label] of a [tower] (72) and [heart of Lyoko] (73 #sector_lyokoCore).
Virtual Card
The ['Virtual Card'] (58) is the main map from which you will follow the evolution of X.A.N.A. monsters are represented by a [color] {red} [color=||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||* red dot [color]) * on the map. To know the [monster type] (#monster-type) hidden under this symbol, you need to recognize the logo displayed on the entity's mini-map. Consult the ['Legend Card'] window (58 #vmap_legend) to be able to associate each symbol with each type of monster.
5th Territory Sensor^
The ['5th Territory Sensor'] window (31 #carthage_sensor) displays a map of the [5th Territory] (73 #sector_lyoko_core) labyrinth when it is open. The monsters present in the labyrinth zone will then be represented by [color] {orange} orange} orange triangles 'attention' [color].
{: #monster_battle} Combat
In combat, [common monsters] (#monster-common) all have 2 different types of attacks whose damage varies according to the monster family. On the other hand, [special] monsters (#monster-special) have their own unique abilities. Regardless of the [monster type] (#monster-type), they will focus their attacks on Aelita's allies if she finds herself in a fight where William is present. Only the [goalkeeper] (#monster-guardian) cannot enter a fight as he is indestructible with attacks.
Normal attack
The normal attack inflicts average damage on a single opponent (between [label] {green-light} 15 and 35 HP [label] to a [lyoko warrior] (77)). This attack does not cost [label] {yellow} [label|yellow} the monster any [label] action points.
Strong Attack
The powerful attack, or attack X, deals high damage on a single and unique opponent (between [label] {green-light} 30 and 70 HP [label] to a [lyoko warrior] (77)). However, this attack costs the monster [label] {yellow} 1, 2, or 3 points [label] of action depending on whether the game is in easy, normal, or hard mode, respectively.
Support
The 'Support' ability allows a monster to pass its battle turn. This ability will only be used if watches need to act before [William] (77 #lw_william) xanatified, while only [Aelita] (77 #lw_aelita) is left in combat. So [William] (77 #lw_william) will be able to use his 'Supersmoke Sail' ability to capture the [lyoko warrior] (77).
{: #monster_strategy} Strategy
The monsters in X.A.N.A. can have different goals depending on what the computer virus is pursuing.
Tower Defense activated
When X.A.N.A. activates a [tower for its benefit] (72 #tower_activation), it will always place a wave of a [monster type] (#monster-type) to guard it, as well as a [xanatified lyoko warrior] (77 #lw_xanatification) if he has one. When a [lyoko warrior] (77) approaches, monsters will split into two groups. The first will go to meet the characters while the second will remain close to the [tower] (72). If a [xana-warrior] (77 #xw) is leading the monster group, the entire group will charge with their lieutenant.
William's Escort
If [William] (77 #lw_william) captures [Aelita] (77 #lw_aelita) with his `'Supersmoke Sail' ability, the other monsters present in the [sector] (73) will escort him until he throws the girl into the [Digital Sea] (75).
Heart Attack
During an attack by [Lyoko's heart] (73 #sector_lyokoCore), X.A.N.A. can send [3 creepers] (#monster-creeper), which can sometimes be accompanied by [2 mantas] (#monster-manta), into the heart. Explosion effects will apply to the 3D model of the heart in the ['Virtual Map'] (58) during a monster attack. You can then consult the status of the sphere's protective shields via the ['Heart Status'] window (31 #carthage_core).
Skidbladnir Attack Skidbladnir can only be attacked when stowed in
the GarageSkid. During a clash, X.A.N.A. can send [4 creepers] (#monster-creeper) and [2 mantas] (#monster-manta) for a direct confrontation, or the [Scyphozoa] (#monster-scyphozoa) for a drainage attack on the shield. Depending on the attack, explosion* (direct confrontation) * or [color] {purple} spiral [color] * (drainage) * effects will apply around the Skidbladnir 3D model in the 'Virtual Map'. You can then consult the status of the [Docking Shield] (76 #skidbladnir_dockingShield) of the submarine from the ['Skid - Docking Shield'] window (53 #skid_dockingShield).
Tower Attack
Destruction Using waves of 2 megatanks each, X.A.N.A. will attempt to destroy any [tower] (72) activated by [Franz Hopper] (79) or from which you use [DNA correction or exchange programs] (72 #tower_internal). During an attack, an animation will be applied to the 3D model of the tower in the ['Virtual Map'] (58). In addition, you can track or consult the percentage of health points of a tower by [analysing it with the Superscan] (54 #superscan_select). Note that if the tower is destroyed, the [lyoko warriors] (77) will be ejected from it and you will have to start the procedure all over again.
Control theft The presence of one or more monsters around a [tower] (72) that X.A.N.A. is trying to take control of you will increase the energy that the computer virus will inject. Thus, always destroy monsters approaching a tower that you control, in order to slow the progress of the virus in its flight.
Lyoko Warrior Attack Monsters can also be materialized with the sole purpose
of [devirtualizing the lyoko warriors] (77 #lw_devirtualization) present on a [territory] (73). You can choose to enable or disable these random attacks with the 'Random Monster' option in the 'General' custom game settings.
{: #monster_type} Monster Type
In total, there are 11 different monster types, each with its own characteristics, habitat, and special abilities. These 11 types of monsters are divided into 2 categories:
{: #monster_type_common} Common monsters Common
monsters can be used without any limit on regeneration time by X.A.N.A. These are also the types of monsters that X.A.N.A. can use to defend a [tower] (72) that it has activated for its benefit. In addition to this, some of these monsters can be used for specific attacks such as [megatanks] (#monster-megatank) to [destroy a tower] (72 #tower_destruction) or [mantas] (#monster-manta) and [creepers] (#monster-creeper) during a [heart] (73 #sector_lyokoCore) or [Skidbladnir] (76) attack).
{: #monster_type_special} Special monsters Special monsters
are units for which X.A.N.A. has a recompilation time between uses. These monsters all have their own options in the 'XANA Lyoko' tab allowing you to choose their probability of appearing.
{: #monster_common} Common Monsters
{: #monster_kankrelat} Kankrelat [color] {red} :monster-kankrelat/ [color] A true mascot of the monsters of X.A.N.A., the kankrelat was the first unit used by the virus computer science.
Historically moving in groups of 6, they play on numbers, more than individual strength. Just like on [Lyoko] (74 #virtualWorld_lyoko), these monsters will also be the first to be sent to Earth via scanners during episode 26: “False Start”. It will also be the only unit to have been translated in episode 83: “Superstition.”
Statistics
- Units per Wave: 3 - Armor: 0

Attacks
Laser shoo Deal15 or 20 points of damage to a character.
Laser shot X Deal30 or 35 points of damage to a character.
{: #monster_blok} Block [color] {red} :monster-blok/ [color] Used particularly in the [color] {purple} |||purple} Mountain [
color] and [color] {blue} [color] sectors, the blocks are the monsters in X.A.N.A. with the most attack options at their disposal. Indeed, this unit can alternate between 3 types of attack: a freezing ray, fire hoops or more conventional laser shots. Like many monsters in season 1, their appearance will become more and more rare as the series progresses.
Statistics
- Units per Wave: 2 - Armor: 1
- Habitat: Mountain, Desert, Forest, and Ice Shelf
Attacks
Laser shoo Deal20 or 25 points of damage to a character.
Laser shot X Deal40 points of damage to a character.
{: #monster_hornet} Hornet [color] {red} [color] The first flying
unit created by X.A.N.A., hornets are mainly used on [sector] (73) [color] {purple} Mountain [color] given that the surrounding mist and the relief of the terrain give them a definite advantage over their opponents. In addition to laser shots with their stingers, hornets are also capable of spewing venom that creates toxic vapors for the living points of whoever breathes them in. Despite this, the hornets will gradually disappear over the course of the series, replaced by a unit originally from the 5th Sector: the [manta] (#monster-manta).
Statistics
- Units per Wave: 3 - Armor: 1
- Habitat: Mountain, Desert, Forest, and Ice Shelf ######
Capacity
Flight The hornet is a flying unit, so it can use the same air lanes as [lyoko warriors] (77) when they travel in [overvehicle] (47).
Attacks
- Laser shoot- Deal15 or 20 points of damage to a character.
- Laser shot X Deal30 or 35 points of damage to a character.
{: #monster_hornet} Hornet [color] {red} :monster-krab. [color] Probably the most emblematic unit of X.A.N.A, the
4-legged top krab is used uniformly on Lyoko's [4 surface sectors] (73 #sector_category). Its large legs offer it a wide range of movements, in addition to making it an extremely fast monster. Like [kankrelats] (#monster-kankrelat), krabs also had the opportunity to be materialized on Earth in episode 39: “Bad Behavior.”
Statistics
- Units per Wave: 2 - Armor: 1
- Habitat: Mountain, Desert, Forest, and Ice Shelf
Attacks
Laser shoo Deal20 or 25 points of damage to a character.
Laser shot X Deal30 or 35 points of damage to a character.
{: #monster_megatank} Megatank [color] {red} :monster-megatank* [color] The megatank is the most powerful and resistant unit of all computer virus units.
It has the particularity of not attacking directly with lasers, but with shock waves that are both horizontal and transverse. With its spherical shape, megatanks can roll on the ground, making them the fastest unit in
X.A.N.A. ###### Statistics - Unit per wave: 1 by default and 2 when attacking or defending a tower.
- Armor: 4
- Habitat: Mountain, Desert, Forest and Ice Shelf. Exceptionally, megatanks may be materialized in the tower room of the [5th Sector] (73 #sector_lyoko_core) if you use the [tower] (72) of this territory.
Ability
- Tower Attack Megatanks are the only monsters that can directly attack [towers] (72) in a [virtual world] (74). X.A.N.A. will materialize waves of megatanks as long as you use a [DNA-related program] (72 #tower_internal) or as long as a tower is activated by [Franz Hopper] (79).
Attacks
- Vertical Shoot Deal35 points of damage to a character.
- Vertical shot X Deal75 points of damage to a character.
{: #monster_tarentula} Tarantula [color] {red} :monster-tarentula/ [color] The tarentula is the first monster created by X.A.N.A. post-season 1.
This unit is the only one with two laser cannons, one on each end of its front legs. Just like the [krab] (#monster-krabe), its legs ensure great mobility. Moreover, tarentulas will not hesitate to get up on their two hind legs in order to aim more precisely at characters moving in [overvehicles] (47). Finally, [William] (77 #lw_william), as a lieutenant of the X.A.N.A troops, will very often use tarentulas to accompany him in battle.
Statistics
- Unit per wave: 1 by default and 2 when defending [tower] (72).
- Armor: 3
- Habitat: Mountain, Desert, Forest and Ice Shelf.
Attacks
- Double Shot Deal20 or 25 points of damage to a character.
- Double Shot X Deal50 points of damage to a character.
{: #monster_tarentula} Rampant [color] {red} :monster-creeper/ [
color] The first unit to appear on the [5th Territory] (73 #sector_lyoko_core), the creeper adapts particularly well to the vertical terrain inside the core zone. With its ability to crawl over walls and sneak everywhere, this monster will give [lyoko warriors] (77) venturing into the mystery sector no respite. Moreover, it is exclusively on this sector that this type of monster will be used.
Statistics
- Units per wave: 3 - Armor: 1
- Habitat: 5th Territory
Ability
- Heart & Skidbladnir The creepers are, along with the [mantas] (#monster-manta), the only monsters that can directly attack the [heart of Lyoko] (73 #sector_lyokoCore) or the [Skidbladnir] (76) when stowed in the GaragesKid.
Attack
- Laser shoot- Deal15 or 20 points of damage to a character.
{: #monster_manta} Manta [color] {red}: monster-manta: [color
] The second flying unit created by X.A.N.A., mantas are equipped with a powerful laser, and explosive mines allowing them to block access to an entire area. Initially used only in the [5th Sector] (73 #sector_lyoko_core), mantas will cross the Heavenly Vault from season 3 onwards, allowing them to be present on all existing [sector types] (73 #sector_type). This is how mantas will gradually replace [hornets] (73 #monster_hornet) over the course of the series.
Common mantas correspond
to blue mantas on [Lyoko] (74 #virtualWorld_lyoko). So these are the mantas that X.A.N.A. created himself to attack [lyoko warriors] (77) on all [types of sectors] (73 #sector_type). It is also the common mantas that will attack the [heart of Lyoko] (73 #sector_lyokoCore) or the [Skidbladnir] (76) in his garage.
- Statistics
- Units per wave: 2 - Armor: 3
- Habitat: Mountain, Desert, Forest, Ice Shelf, and 5th Territory
- Capacity - Flight The manta is a flying unit.
It can therefore use the same air lanes as [lyoko warriors] (77) when they travel in [overvehicle] (47).
Heart & Skidbladnir attack Mantas are, along with creepers, the only monsters capable of directly attacking [Lyoko's heart] (73 #sector_lyokoCore) or [Skidbladnir] (76) when stowed in the GaragesKid.
Attacks
Laser shoot- Deal20 or 25 points of damage to a character.
Laser shot X Deal40 or 45 points of damage to a character.
Common Manta
More powerful than its congeners with a bluish back, the black manta can only be summoned by a [lyoko warrior xanatified definitively] (77 #lw_xanatification) with his 'Invocation' ability. However, a [xana-warrior] (77 #xw) will only use this ability, costing [label] {yellow} [label|yellow} 4 action points [label], when he is alone in combat, and only once per virtualization at most.
- Statistics
- Units per wave: 1 - Armor: 4 - Attacks
- Laser shoot- Deal30 points of
damage to a character .
- Laser shot X Deal55 points of damage to a character against [label] {yellow} 2 action points [label].
{: #monster_special} Special Monsters
{: #monster_polymorphe} Polymorphic Clone [color] {red} lw-odd: lw-ulrichlw-william [color] [color] A virtual version of the polymorphic spectrum, this unit will be used only in episode 51: “Revelations.”
Thus, a polymorphic clone results from the virtualization of a spectrum on the virtual world. This type of enemy takes on the appearance of a Lyoko Warrior and imitates his fighting style.
Statistics
Unit per wave: 1 - Armor: 2
Habitat: Mountain, Desert, Forest, and Ice Shelf.
Ability
- Imitation Imitating trait for trait one [lyoko warrior] (77), a polymorphic clone will have the same symbol on its mini-map, avatar card, and attacks as those of the copied character. For the imitation to be even more perfect, it will be the only type of monster represented by a dot like Lyoko Warriors but [color] {red} [color] [color] [color] on the ['Virtual Card'] (58).
- Regeneration Unlike other monsters, the action points of the polymorphic clone allow it to regenerate. For example, if he loses all his life points, he will consume [label] {yellow} [label] at most 4 action points [label] in order to regenerate his [label] {yellow} health points to 100% [label]. Moreover, it is during its regeneration phases that the spectrum will change shape.
Attacks
- Normal shot Deal20 or 25 points of damage to a character.
- Zone attack Deal25 points of damage to any character present in the fight against [label] {yellow} 2 action points [label].
{: #monster_guardian} Keeper [color] {red}: monster-guardian: [
color] Used only in 2 episodes of Season 1, the Keeper is a very particular monster that is indestructible in combat and has no way of directly attacking characters. Its one and only role is to imprison a [lyoko warrior] (77), crippling him and blocking him in the [virtual world] (74).
Statistics
- Unit per wave: 1 - Habitat: Lyoko Surface Sectors.
Abilities
Capture The guardian is a monster that absorbs a [lyoko warrior] (77), the [paralyzing] (77 #lw_paralysis) thus continuously in order to block any interaction with his prisoner. A character captured by a Keeper instantly loses [label] {green-light} [label=] 50% of their maximum health [label].
**Invulnerability ** This monster has the particularity of not starting any combat when a character approaches it. The only way to free a Lyoko Warrior from a Keeper is to create a [clone] (33) of the Keeper in order to detonate him. See the tutorial ['Freeing a Lyoko Warrior from a Guardian'] (8) to learn more about this procedure.
{: #monster_scyphozoa} Scyphozoa [color] {red} [ color] First appearing in episode 28 “Unknown Lands,” the Medusa is a unique monster that does not have a laser, but can with its tentacles capture a [lyoko warrior
] (77) and manipulate his memory or his DNA. Thus, X.A.N.A. will use the Scyphozoa both to [xanatify the Lyoko Warriors] (77 #lw_xanatification) and to steal their memory. Much later in the series, the monster will use its drainage technique on the [Skidbladnir] (76) to destroy the virtual submarine by draining it of its energy.
Manipulative Medusa The DNA-Thieving
Medusa and the Xanatifying Medusa can be deployed by X.A.N.A. on a [surface sector] (73 #sector_category), a [Replika] (74 #virtualWorld_replika), or in the 5th Territory^ Labyrinth in order to capture a [lyoko warrior]] (77) and corrupt its memory or DNA. If a character is caught, their ['Memory'] window (46) will then automatically open to show you the fluctuation in the character's memory. You can destroy this type of scyphozoa by sending a clone generated by the [cloning program] (33) to meet it.
Statistics
Unit per wave: 1 - Armor: 6
Habitat: Mountain, Desert, Forest, Ice Shelf, 5th Territory Labyrinth^.
Abilities
DNA theft This type of scyphozoa catches [lyoko warriors] (77) in order to [steal their DNA sequence codes] (77 #lw_dnaSteal), preventing them from being able to be devirtualized. The only way to recover and reimplant the DNA sequence codes of a Lyoko Warrior will be to search for them directly in the memory of X.A.N.A. from the 5th Territory interface. See the tutorial 'Retrieving DNA sequence codes from a Lyoko Warrior' to learn more about this procedure.
Xanatification The Xanatifying Scyphozoa implants a virus in the memory of the [lyoko warrior] (77) allowing X.A.N.A. to control the character. We then speak of [temporary xanatification] (77 #lw_xanatification). Note that during a xanatification, the xanatified protagonist will have his DNA corrected if he suffers from a [DNA problem] (77 #lw_deadlyDevirt). To save a [Lyoko Warrior] (77) from this state, you can either devirtualize him in combat, or [reset the Supercomputer] (82), which will free the character from the clutches of the virus. See the tutorial ['Saving a temporarily xanatified Lyoko Warrior'] (21) to learn more about this procedure.
Attack Scyphozoa can enter combat if she arrives in a fight that is already in progress or if she meets a character whose DNA she cannot steal, because that character already has a [DNA problem] (77 #lw_deadlyDevirt). The monster then has its own attack capacity.
Whipping Deal10 points of damage to a character.
Draining Medusa This type of jellyfish only attacks the [Skidbladnir docking shield] (76 #skidbladnir_dockingShield). When the Scyphozoa attacks the virtual submarine in this way, it is impossible for you to undock it from the GarageSkid. The only way to stop this attack is to eject the monster by overloading its protective shield using the [Multiscan] (56 #transm_transf). See the ['Defending Skidbladnir'] tutorial (11) to learn more about this procedure.
